What is United Methodist Women?

United Methodist Women (UMW) is a national organization with nearly one million members and has long been a tradition of the Methodist church, making significant contributions in leadership, teaching, service and missions over its 135 year history.   Members raise approximately $20 million a year for programs and projects related to women, children and youth in the United States and in more than 100 countries around the world!  United Methodist Women is sponsored through the Women's Division of the United Methodist Church.  To read more about the church's women's division and national and global happenings, visit http://gbgm-umc.org/umw.

What is the purpose of the United Methodist Women?

The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

Who is a member of United Methodist Women?

As part of the body of Christ at DUMC, we are all United Methodist Women!  United Methodist Women celebrates an inclusive membership and welcomes all women who want to become members. Being a member of DUMC is not required.

Why become a member of United Methodist Women?

We are a community of women who nurture and encourage one another in our spiritual growth and personal leadership.  Being part of United Methodist Women at DUMC, we learn about and support our church’s national and global missions and social initiatives. On a local level, we provide for many non-profit agencies through service and monetary donations.

Joining A Circle

Because the membership at Davidson United Methodist Church is large and diverse, we are organized in sub-groups, called Circles. There are six Circles and each meets at different times of the month and focuses on programs and missions that are of unique interest to its members. We get together social and mission programs.

Everyone is encouraged to participate in our Circles. There is no better place for fellowship, support and service!  Just contact the Circle chair to verify the meeting time and place.  However, membership in United Methodist Women does not require Circle involvement.  Membership can be expressed in several ways such as intercessory prayer, undesignated giving to support global mission, participation in the reading program, and participation in various events.

If you would like to become involved in United Methodist Women in any way, contact our Membership Chair, Martha Packard (704-892-0912).

Abundant Life Circle
The Abundant Life Circle is a service-oriented circle, involved in things such as the abused women’s shelter, The Habitat for Humanity families, and the Room In the Inn.   This circle meets the second Tuesday of each month in Room 218 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. We are always excited to have new members!  Contact: Angela Adams (704-895-8355) or Nancy Young (704-987-9867).

Founders Circle
We enjoy a variety of guests, bring a bag lunch, and fellowship is enjoyed by all.  We are proud of our group, with its wonderful mix of ages, and all keep learning from each other.  New members and visitors are welcome.  The Founders Circle meets the first Tuesday of each month (September - May) at 11:00 a.m. in Room 218.  Contact: Jean McKay (704-892-6648).

Joy Circle
Our mission field is the town of Mooresville.  We welcome all women who share this focus.  Meeting times and dates vary.  Contact Susan Harrison (704-660-6918) or Anne Lowe (704-660-3278).

Mizpah Circle
As a Mizpah Circle member, you will experience spiritual growth, nurturing, and fellowship! We have participated in the following: Snacks for Ada Jenkins after school program, afternoon tutoring program at a local church, Room in the Inn, DUMW bereavement meals, Habitat snacks for workers, helped to prepare meals for special DUMW programs, remembered our shut-ins throughout the year, and served Communion as a group. Many of us attend the Spiritual Growth retreat held at Lake Junaluska each June.   We always come back feeling renewed from this experience.

At least twice a year, we meet in a member’s home and enjoy a covered dish or salad dinner.  Several times during the year, we meet at a local restaurant for a Saturday luncheon.  These times provide the fellowship that is so important to getting to know each other outside the “church” scenario.

Mizpah Circle welcomes visitors or new members at any time.  You will find a group of women who are loving, caring individuals striving for the betterment of their lives. We are supportive of each other and mindful of others who are in need of prayer or support.  The Mizpah Circle meets the first Thursday of each month (September - May) at 10:30 a.m. in Room 222.  Contact: Maggie Kessler (704-947-8557).

Sharing Circle
Our purpose is to share, support, laugh and serve all in the name of Christ.  Our meetings consist of speakers, discussion topics, missions, creative projects and personal growth.  We meet the second Thursday of each month (September - May) at 9:30 a.m. in Room 222.  Child-care is provided by calling the church office in advance.  Contact: Lisa Livingston (704-987-0952) or Wendy Matthews (704-896-3134).
